A poster design about gender inequality in fashion and the workplace. the copy reads:
Admit it, this image made you laugh. But, have you ever thought about why? Why do we laugh when a man dons typically feminine garb, but respect when a woman does the opposite? Why can’t a woman dress like a lady and still be regarded as a professional? Why when you search for images embodying the word “success” are there only three pictures of women out of countless men? The answer is simple, when a woman dresses like a man she is, in the eyes of society, advancing herself. When a man dresses like a woman, he is downgrading (and why would you go and do that?) As a weakly dimorphic species, it is shocking how vastly different societal gender roles are. While women can wear pants, they only earn .77 cents to their male counterparts dollar. Yet, while men make more for equal work, they don’t have as much sartorial freedom. Whether you choose to wear slacks, skirts, pants, or dresses, wear them with pride. We should not be ashamed to dress like women, because being a woman is not shameful.
